Young Scooter

If Young Scooter told us he was pushing tonnes of that colombian white, it wouldn’t sound as epic as metric-tons does. That’s what his career has been about in the last year: making things sound as interesting as possible. This was achieved on his break-out single “Colombia,” off Street Lottery, but unfortunately didn’t continue through the year.

April saw Scooter heading back to prison for what would be more than six months on a parole violation. From The Cell Block To Your Block attempted to keep his name hot but would ultimately contain a lot of forgettable records. Luckily, though, Street Lottery was full of strong material that lasted the entire year: “Made It Through The Struggle,” “Jugg Season” and more. He came out late October, got right to work with a couple records and announced a follow-up to the project on January 1.

The overall product may not contain a single like “Colombia,” but it stands to continue the tradition of the Street Lottery series in having high replay value, all types of hustling, money-getting and street-fueled bangers and even a Cam’ron verse (Wiz Khalifa, OJ Da Juiceman and others also make appearances). Is his buzz back up to where it was last year around this time? That remains to be seen. As long as he stays out of trouble, Young Scooter’s 2014 can be the year he, and his fans, had hoped for in 2013.
